Ongoing Damage
When a power is listed as inflicting "ongoing" damage or an ongoing effect, it works as follows:
Ongoing Damage
When the spell is cast, and successfully affects the target, nothing happens immediately, except any specifically instant effects listed by the spell.
At the start of the target's next turn, it suffers the full effect, then is allowed a save to end, if granted by the spell's description.
- If the save is successful, the effect ends, and will not affect the target next round.
- If the save fails, the effect continues, and will affect the target next round.
Some ongoing damage may not allow a save. In this case, it simply affects the target at the beginning of each of his turns until the duration expires.
Ongoing Effects
An ongoing non-damage effect, such as "frozen" or "paralyzed", takes effect immediately once the spell is cast.
At the beginning of the subject's next turn, he is allowed a save to end (as dictated by the spell). If successful, the effect ends immediately; otherwise, it does not end, and he may attempt to save next round, etc.
